How Do I Stay Motivated To Stick To My Weight Loss Goals?

I know that what motivates us to start a new eating plan, for a healthier one, are reasons that change over time. Sometimes we just want to “lose weight” and when the goal is achieved, bamm? The old toxic habits we were used to (the typical burger and fries, coffee with a good donut, junk food, to name a few) return.

So to stay motivated on the road to weight loss represents a mental challenge, which goes beyond willpower (because even that leaves us at one point in the diet), read on and find out how you can motivate yourself and stick to your goals:

Set realistic goals:
While it’s true that you have a goal, it’s also important to set realistic and achievable goals to avoid feeling discouraged. Set short and long term goals and celebrate your achievements along the way. For example 1 kilo per week, or 2 pounds, may be a more achievable and less frustrating goal in the long run. By the end of the month you will have lost 4 kilos or 8.8 pounds. Not bad, right?

Find a workout partner:
Having a workout partner can be a great source of motivation and support. Schedule training sessions together and keep each other accountable. A partner makes the journey less of a chore and you’ll both benefit from the challenge.

Keep track of your progress:
Keeping track of your progress can be a great source of motivation. Keep a food diary, log your workouts and take regular measurements to see how you are progressing. You know if you can’t measure, you’ll never know if you’re making progress or not, so there’s nothing like monitoring every day, every meal, even every craving.

Seek support online or in person:
Seek out online communities or in-person support groups that share your weight loss goals. Sharing your experiences and challenges with others can be motivating and can help you stay on track. For me, I’ve found it helpful to find groups of people who are already aligned to this goal, and we’ve even shared healthy recipes.

Don’t give up:
It’s normal to have ups and downs on the road to weight loss. If you have a bad day, don’t give up. Remember that every day is a new opportunity to make healthy choices and move towards your goals.

Reward yourself:
Celebrate your achievements along the way with small rewards. Try to avoid food-related rewards and instead look for ways to reward yourself that are healthy and help you move towards your goals. My favourite way is to take a short trip.

I hope you found this information useful.
